Silo · Clinics & Doctors
English-speaking GPs and specialists, by specialty and by area — plus how to check a doctor’s registration before you sit down in front of them.
Unless you already know the specialty you need, start with a general practitioner at a clinic. It is cheaper, faster, and a GP referral usually gets you a better specialist appointment than booking one cold. In Indonesia you can self-refer to a specialist, which is convenient and is also how people end up with the wrong one.
Self-referral is allowed here — that is not the same as it being the right move.
Three questions that settle it.

You have a known, diagnosed condition and need continuity — a cardiologist for existing heart disease, a dermatologist for a mole you are already tracking.
Bring your records and prior imaging

Every doctor practising in Indonesia must hold a current practice licence (SIP). Ask which hospital or clinic they are attached to, and where they trained.

Every area
The first stop for most problems. Widely available in English at the expat clinics in Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud and Sanur.
Clinics by area — General practice
Denpasar & Sanur
Children’s specialists sit mainly at the hospitals rather than the tourist clinics. For an unwell small child, go to a hospital rather than wait for a clinic slot.
Hospitals with paediatrics — Paediatrics
Seminyak, Canggu, Denpasar
Heavily served, partly because the climate generates business. Quality ranges widely — this is a specialty where checking the individual doctor matters most.
Skin clinics in Seminyak — Dermatology & skin
Seminyak, Sanur, Denpasar
One of the main reasons visitors seek treatment here. Materials and technique vary enormously between clinics at similar prices.
Dental clinics by area — Dentistry
Denpasar & Sanur
Surfing and scooter injuries keep this specialty busy. Imaging on site is the thing to confirm before booking.
Hospitals with imaging — Orthopaedics & sports injury
Denpasar
Concentrated at the larger hospitals, with the deepest bench at the public referral hospital. Bring previous ECGs and medication lists.
Best hospitals, ranked — Internal medicine & cardiologyConsultation fees for a foreigner paying out of pocket. Tests and medication are extra.
| Consultation | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GP, local clinic | Rp 150,000 – 400,000 | English varies |
| GP, expat clinic | Rp 500,000 – 1,200,000 | English, insurance paperwork |
| Specialist, private hospital | Rp 500,000 – 1,500,000 | Per consultation, imaging extra |
| Specialist, public hospital | Rp 200,000 – 600,000 | Longer waits |
| Doctor to your villa or hotel | Rp 1,000,000 – 2,500,000 | Depends on distance and hour |
| Telemedicine consultation | Rp 100,000 – 400,000 | Good for repeat prescriptions |
Follow-up consultations are usually cheaper than the first. If you are claiming on insurance, ask for an itemised receipt in English at the time — obtaining one later is considerably harder.
The international and expat-facing clinics are reliable. At hospitals, ask for the international patient desk rather than the general reception — they will route you to doctors who consult in English.
Ask which hospital or clinic they practise at, where they trained, and for their practice licence. A doctor who is reluctant to answer any of those is telling you something.
No — you can book a specialist directly in Indonesia. A GP referral is still usually the better route unless you already know exactly what you need.
Yes. Doctor-on-call services cover the southern areas and Ubud, typically within a couple of hours. Convenient, and around double a clinic visit.
Usually. Bring the packaging or the generic name — brand names differ. Telemedicine is often enough for a repeat and is the cheapest route.
